Dear Pay Dirt,
This is admittedly a low-stakes question but I’m curious to get opinions about what’s “fair.” My friend “Carlotta” and I travel about once a year together; we also meet up for dinner/drinks every few months. Carlotta makes about three-to-four times as much money as I do. She’s mostly cognizant of that and doesn’t try to plan anything fancy/outside of my budget. But there’s one area we can’t agree on, which is getting from point A to point B. I try to walk or take public transportation as much as possible, as opposed to cabs or ride shares, whereas Carlotta wants to get a rideshare, or if we’re planning a trip, arrange private transport.
