A man was arrested Tuesday night in connection with the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old, the Gonzales Police Department said.

Darius Mosby, 24, was booked into the Ascension Parish jail on counts of second-degree murder, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and resisting an officer, in the fatal shooting of Jonathan King.

King was shot at about 11 p.m. Tuesday at 920 W. Tony Street in Gonzales and died at the scene, despite first-aid treatments by responding officers and EMS, police said.

Mosby was found hiding in heavy brush along South Darla Avenue, after a tipster to 911 directed deputies from Ascension and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Offices and police dogs to the spot, Gonzales police said in a news release.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police said.
