The National Transportation Safety Board’s latest claim that the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge was preventable is like saying every tragedy is preventable “if…” Yes, that’s a big “if” ( “NTSB: Key Bridge collapse was entirely ‘preventable,’ citing ship failures and missing worker warning system,” Nov. 18).
If the crew had known the wire was getting ready to come off, they would have fixed it, as they certainly didn’t want the collision to occur. The NTSB pretty much criticized or blamed everyone in the report except for the NTSB for “finding the one signal wire among thousands” responsible for the collision.
Of course, the person who reported that the NTSB did such a wonderful job was Jennifer Homendy, who also happens to be the agency’s chairperson. I agree that the constr
