A Maryland man will spend decades behind bars for sexually abusing a minor, authorities announced.

Lexington Park resident Robin Maudie Barahona Gonzalez has been sentenced to 40 years in prison with 35 years to serve following a 2022 investigation that led to his arrest and prosecution, the St. Mary's County State's Attorney's Office announced.

In addition to his prison term, the judge ordered that Barahona Gonzalez register as a sex offender for life for the sexual abuse of a minor and possession of child pornography.

Specifically, the court sentenced Barahona Gonzalez to 25 years in prison for sexual abuse and five years each for possession of child pornography.

"(Barahona Gonzalez's) repeated and egregious acts against a child are among the most serious and disturbing crimes we prosecute,” State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling said. “This sentence delivers justice for the victim and protects other children from future harm.”
