A woman faces two life sentences after being convicted of murdering an 18-year-old who had been visiting family in New Jersey when she was taken from the relatives home, driven back to Maryland and killed.

Iris Alonzo-Salgado, 24, of Frederick, Maryland is the first of four people charged to be found guilty.

The killing took place at the direction of the MS-13 crime gang, the State Attorney’s Office in Montgomery County said.

Rosa Sanchez Merino, who was from Gaithersburg, Maryland knew two of her killers and had traveled with the group to New Jersey to visit family in Elizabeth in May 2023, Patch.com reported .

Alonzo-Salgado and others were accused of removing the teen from a home in Elizabeth and driven back to Maryland, officials in Montgomery County, Maryland said.
