A 20-year-old Maryland father of two is being mourned across his family and community after he was killed in a motorcycle crash this week — a loss made even heavier by the fact that his own father is reportedly in a coma at the same time.
Avion Wright died on Monday, Nov. 17, at around 9 p.m., according to his sister, who said the crash shattered their family.
He leaves behind two young daughters, ages 4 and 1, a devoted mother, his father, and siblings who are reeling.
His sister, Laniza Wright, wrote that she is “so lost for words” as she tries to understand how her little brother — a young dad who she says always made sure everyone else was okay first — was suddenly gone.
“They say (you're) not supposed to question god, but why, why, why?” she wrote. “My baby brother yo… I just hugged you so tight last week and told you (you) were going to be okay… literally taken from me on my son's birthday, this shattered my heart.”
Wright said her brother had “so much life to live,” describing him as someone with a huge heart, a bigger smile, and a loyalty that never wavered.
She said he never hesitated when someone needed help, and that he loved nothing more than his two daughters, his siblings, and riding.
“He had a soul out of this world, always making sure everyone was okay before he was okay,” Laniza said. She wrote that Avion could ride “for hours and hours,” calling it one of the pure joys of his life.
His death came during a month of heartbreak for the family, with his father still fighting for his life in a coma, according to Laniza. The grief has become almost impossible to process, she said.
“I can’t even breathe, I'm sick literally, but I gotta be strong for everybody… nobody will ever understand the pain and hurt I feel, but I hide and don’t show.”
The family is now trying to give Avion “a proper goodbye,” and Laniza has launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses. She said every donation — no matter the amount — will go directly to supporting his daughters and giving him the sendoff he deserves.
“If you all can help, anything is acceptable,” she wrote.
The fundraiser, organized by Laniza Wright, can be found here.
Laniza ended her tribute with the kind of plea no sister should ever have to make, a line that captures both her grief and the bond she’s struggling to accept is broken.
“Just please call me, text me something… I just can’t understand.”
