A 21-year-old who took part in a getaway burglary before the death of teenager Dean Barnes has avoided jail. Alexander Riley, then aged 18, was one of a group of three individuals, together with Adam Norman, then 34, and Barnes, 16, who plotted a burglary on a property in Reddish in January 2023.

Homeowner Callum Duncan was alerted to the theft of his off-road bikes, which he kept in a shed on his property, and chased the group in his car. While Riley manged to flee, Dean Barnes abandoned his bike and rode as pillion passenger on the bike driven by Norman.

This then crashed into another car in Stockport , and Barnes died of his injuries at the scene. Mr Duncan was cleared of causing death by dangerous driving at a trial earlier this year, while Norman was found guilty
