ALEXANDRIA — Runestone Detachment 1409 in Alexandria celebrated its 10th annual birthday banquet on Monday, Nov. 10 .

It's also the 250th birthday of the Marine Corps on that same day.

The banquet took place at Alexandria VFW Post 936. All Marines and FMF Navy Corpsmen were invited to the event, which was also open to the public.

Activities included a cake-cutting ceremony, recognition of the oldest and youngest Marine and a reading of the Commendation Challenge, along with other activities. In addition, Col. Robert Flannery of the U.S. Marine Corps was the banquet's guest speaker. Flannery is the Center for Naval Warfare Studies' deputy dean and a career aviation supply officer, with extensive aviation sustainment and joint operations experience.
