IT was a night of shears and queers, bears, otters and Eagles on Thursday as a collection made from the wool of gay sheep made its way down the runway for the first time.
Designer Michael Schmidt discovered that farms slaughter rams that won’t mate with female sheep (in other words, those who say eww to ewes). Or, as Schmidt put it to the Times, “The sheep are killed for being gay.”
Schmidt and Grindr put together “I Wool Survive,” a collection made from their coats. He showed it off at the Altman Building, charming the crowd with archetypal gay fantasy looks, including workmen, athletes, UPS guys, and so on — all knitted (even the workmen’s tools and athletes’ sneakers).
