A student who pushed past security and left a loaded gun inside Charles Herbert Flowers High School is now facing charges, police in Maryland said on Wednesday.
Prince George’s County Police said the incident began at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Nov. 18, when school security told the assigned school resource officer that a student had bypassed security personnel and ran up a set of stairs where he left the gun, according to the department.
The student then fled the school, which went into a lockdown.
Patrol officers began canvassing the area. A short time later, officers found the teen and took him into custody, police said.
The suspect is a 15-year-old student at the school. According to PGPD, he has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property.
There were no injuries.
The investigation remains active.
