LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was arrested on unrelated charges after shooting a bear in Lake County, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The shooting occurred Nov. 17, after which the FWC and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene in Grand Island, wildlife officials said in a statement. The bear was euthanized due to the extent of its injuries and a juvenile bear located nearby was safely relocated, the statement reads.
The accused shooter was identified as a 59-year-old Grand Island man, who News 6 is presently not naming.
The FWC’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of the bear was said to still be active at the time of this writing, according to the statement.
