A homeless man was crushed to death by a refuse lorry after sleeping inside a bin. Sajmir Beca, 30, suffered catastrophic injuries after the horror unfolded in Northampton town centre on October 31.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, rushed to the scene of the incident on Wellington Street at around 3am. The driver of the refuse truck raised the alarm.

Mr Beca was taken to University Hospital Coventry but died as a result of his injuries on November 6. An inquest into his death was opened at the Guildhall in Northampton by senior coroner Anne Pember on Wednesday (November 19).

She confirmed the medical cause of Mr Beca's death as multiple organ failure due to multiple crush injuries to the pelvis and lower limbs.
