PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - Plainfield Public Schools sent a letter to families this week addressing concerns about gunshots heard near school grounds.
Plainfield Public Schools Superintendent Paul M. Brenton said a family contacted him after hearing gunshots while on school grounds during evening hours. He acknowledged that can be unsettling for families and students.
“I want to thank those who contacted me; open communication is the foundation of our partnership,” Brenton wrote.
Brenton explained that hunting is a long-standing tradition in eastern Connecticut’s rural areas. With firearms hunting season officially opening this week, sounds from nearby properties commonly carry onto campus.
