NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - New Haven Public Schools confirmed a sophisticated phishing attack that sent over 10,000 fraudulent emails to students seeking personal banking information.
The attack used at least four compromised student accounts to send mass emails to the student body. More than half of students received at least one fraudulent email, and approximately 1,000 emails were opened and read.
The phishing campaign was designed to collect personal banking information. District officials said some students filled out the fraudulent forms, putting those students and their families at immediate financial risk.
