NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - The Elm City has unveiled updated plans to transform Long Wharf into a major waterfront destination using $12 million in state funding, adding amenities ranging from a splash pad to an urban beach alongside the popular food truck area.
The redesign will maintain the food trucks that draw thousands of visitors daily but reorganize them into a two-sided alley where customers can walk between vendors. The plan includes added seating, bathrooms and a large tent structure designed to look like sails on the water.
“We think it’s going to be such an asset for the city,” said Mayor Justin Elicker. “There’s hundreds of thousands of people who drive by New Haven everyday. They’ll see this and say, ‘I want to stop.’”
