SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - Mount Southington is preparing for the upcoming ski season with new snowmaking equipment and programs as crews work to ready the slopes for winter visitors.
The ski area has installed several new automated snowmaking guns that are energy efficient, said Brian McCloskey, marketing director for Mount Southington.
“They are fully automated, they are energy efficient, and when the weather is right, they will be pumping out a lot of snow,” McCloskey said.
McCloskey said dry conditions and temperatures below 28 degrees create the best weather for snowmaking.
“When the air is drier, the snowpack can accumulate a lot faster and it makes for better snow quality,” McCloskey said. “When it’s wet and higher temperatures like twenty eight, twenty nine, it’s just not as g
