MARION, Iowa (KCRG) - The cause of a fatal house fire that occurred in Marion in July remains undetermined, according to investigators.
On July 11, police and fire crews responded to a fire in the 3400 block of Quail Trail Court in Marion.
Firefighters arrived within five minutes of the call and removed 33-year-old Marquel Jennkins from inside. Jennkins was the only person at the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to authorities, the autopsy results determined the cause of death to be accidental due to smoke and carbon monoxide inhalation.
The Fire Department said the fire began somewhere near the kitchen stove, but the exact cause is undetermined. Not all smoke detectors were working at the time of the fire.
