Van Buren, circa 1910: The Douglass School counted among its teachers Rosana Mack, seen to the left. Mack was the niece of famed U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves who had served Judge Isaac Parker in Fort Smith. The Douglass School, after almost a century of dedicated service, closed its doors in 1963 when the local public schools were integrated.
