OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Omaha Police Department will launch its Drones as First Responders program on Thursday at 1 p.m.
OPD reports it is the first of its kind program in Nebraska to enhance emergency response times, officer safety and provide aerial awareness “during critical incidents across the city.”
“Innovation is at the heart of effective policing,” said Chief Todd Schmaderer. ”Our new Drones as First Responders program enhances officer safety, improves response times, and provides a powerful new perspective during emergencies, benefiting both our officers and the community we serve. With this program, we are setting a new standard for emergency response”.
Schmaderer, Mayor John Ewing, and representatives from Axon and Skydio will be present at the launch.
