Megyn Kelly’s recent remarks about accused child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein triggered hundreds of comments on a petition calling for her to be removed from her New York high school’s Hall of Fame.
The Change.org petition, titled “Remove Megyn Kelly from Bethlehem Hall of Fame,” had gathered nearly 900 signatures as of Wednesday, Nov. 19.
Organizers launched it after Kelly – speaking on her SiriusXM talk show Wednesday, Nov. 12 – said Epstein "was into the barely legal type, like, he liked 15-year-old girls. He liked the very young teen types that could pass for even younger than they were, but would look legal to a passerby."
“There's a difference between a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old, you know?” she added.
Kelly, a former NBC and Fox News anchor, graduated from Albany County's Bethlehem Central High School in 1988 and has hosted her political talk show on SiriusXM since 2021.
The petition argues that Kelly’s comments about victims’ ages minimize the seriousness of abuse and calls for her removal from what petitioners believe is an active Hall of Fame. Petition organizers describe Kelly’s remarks as “disturbing and offensive” and say the honor should reflect individuals who “demonstrate exceptional character.”
Following the petition’s rapid spread, the Bethlehem Central School District issued a statement clarifying that Kelly’s status in the school’s Hall of Fame is no longer an active matter. Superintendent Jody Monroe said the high school formally decommissioned the Hall of Fame in 2021.
According to Monroe, the volunteer committee overseeing nominations determined it was “not an appropriate use of their time or district resources to vet and consistently review the actions of adults.” She said the display was removed from school hallways and all references were taken off the district website.
Monroe said the district’s mission rests on “academics, character, community and wellness,” not fame, adding that some forms of public notoriety can conflict with the values the district aims to instill in students.
