RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Reno Police Department is reporting fewer downtown shootings this year compared to 2024.

RPD says they have been focusing on reducing violent and gun related crimes, with particular concern for the downtown area.

They say there have been 54% fewer homicides in 2025 compared to last year, a 22% reduction in reduction in injury shootings, a 59% reduction in shootings into homes, and a 23% drop in collisions.

RPD has been deploying more patrols into the problem areas, despite staffing challenges, as there are currently 20 vacancies and 6 positions frozen. Police Chief Kathryn Nance says RPD currently has 288 deployable staff but would ideally have 361.
