Former Penn State coach James Franklin hit all the right notes during his introductory news conference at Virginia Tech on Wednesday in Blacksburg.

Franklin, who spent 12 seasons at Penn State, briefly addressed his time in State College, expressed plenty of emotion when talking about his good friend Brent Pry, and he discussed the challenges and opportunities awaiting him with Virginia Tech in the ACC.

(Franklin also made frequent use of the term “alignment”, which tracks, too.)

Franklin won 104 games at Penn State. He led the Lions to a Big Ten championship in 2016. Franklin guided the Lions to a pair of Fiesta Bowl victories, a Cotton Bowl win and a Rose Bowl triumph at the end of the 2022 season.

His final Penn State season, though, did not go as planned.
