FAIRFIELD, Calif. —
Fairfield's Monday night decision to approve a new housing project for those experiencing homelessness was not without opposition, following a heated debate among people for and against the initiative.
The Vista Ridge Supportive House Project aims to convert an aging hotel into permanent housing for people transitioning out of homelessness. The project, located at 3331 North Texas St., would transform the existing SureStay Hotel and its 100 guest rooms into 50 one-bedroom supportive housing units.
The developer has applied for state grant funding through Project Homekey, estimating the cost at $26 million. The City of Fairfield has committed $1.5 million toward the effort.
