CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Construction is now underway on fire stations in Charleston that are getting a makeover.
“The renovations are unbelievable,” Local Union President and Capt. Austin Smith said.
Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin said the $4.5 million project is officially underway, and the upgrades will modernize some of the stations by adding a kitchen, bathrooms, gym and study area.
Goodwin added that every station’s upgrade depends on need.
“It’s our commitment to making sure we are taking care of our fire department and to the amazing men and women who work on your behalf every day,” Goodwin said.
Firefighters said they are most excited for the individual living quarters that will be installed department-wide.
