The Taylor City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to award a towing contract to J&T Crova, drawing applause from the audience.

The council members, who were sworn in just hours before Tuesday’s meeting, also voted unanimously to rescind a 2016 vote that extended a contract with Area Towing.

Company officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Residents have complained for years Area Towing overcharges for its services.

Deadlocked 3-3 votes plagued the previous council on a number of issues, including the towing contract. Six members couldn’t agree on appointing a seventh person to fill the vacancy after Councilman Butch Ramik resigned in December 2023.
