NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans city employees will be paid this week without the City Council having to dip into emergency reserves, but the administration is now asking council members to consider using rainy day funds to cover payments to vendors.

Budget Committee Chair and Councilmember Joe Giarrusso told WWL Louisiana that the city’s finance department requested access to the reserve funds, though the reasoning behind the request remains unclear.

After a special meeting Wednesday, Giarrusso said he’s not sure he would support using rainy day funds for vendor payments.
