LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Just below a hillside in Valley Station is the future site of Veteran Hill Village.

The proposed complex would have 25 modular cottage-style homes, a 5,000-square-foot community space, and a nature path.

Volunteers of America is leading the project to address the lack of veteran-specific housing in the area.

It will be located deep down Dixie Highway, where Philip Adkinson bought his home roughly 35 years ago, backing up against the 10.9-acre property.

“I just assumed that this property would always be unused and be a nice nature kind of reserve for us,” he said.

And at a glance, it’s easy to understand why. A vast majority of the land is a steep hill tucked between the railroad and the neighborhood.
