PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland mother is facing three counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment after police say they found her two children, a 9-year-old and an 11-year-old, living in what officers described as dangerous and filthy conditions. A judge has now issued a warrant after she failed to appear for court two days in a row.
According to court documents, officers were called to Ruby Godina-Velador's Southeast Portland apartment on Nov. 14 for a welfare check after family members reported she hadn’t picked up her daughter from school and her son, who is nonverbal and autistic, hadn’t gone to school that day. Police said multiple previous welfare checks had been made to the home in the past.
When officers forced entry, they reported an overwhelming stench of urine, feces and rotting
