CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - During a work session on Wednesday afternoon, the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center provided an update to the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors about their efforts to keep up with the growing demand for food assistance.
The growing need comes as the government reopens following a historic 43-day shutdown, which put SNAP benefits in limbo for millions of Americans.
During Wednesday’s presentation, the Chesterfield Food Bank said there have been layers of pressure contributing to this increased need, including benefit delays, slow recovery from lost benefits and salary, as well as a seasonal rise in winter and holiday expenses.
