COVINGTON, Ga. — After a year of tariff troubles and impacts still felt from the government shutdown, people in Georgia are hurting and hungry.
The Georgia Wildlife Federation is reminding people that there is another way to help the community. It's a program called Georgia Hunters for the Hungry .
"This just gives you a whole new way to give back to the community," said Zoey Brown, the program's coordinator.
Brown said hunters can donate deer to a participating processor if they want to get involved.
"That meat is then donated to local food banks, community groups, and churches to provide food for families in need," said Brown.
She explained "every harvest is a huge impact" since one deer provides about 160 meals.
"The need for food, affordable food at that, there's a big need,"
