WILLIAMSPORT — Lycoming County is making a second effort to reduce payroll, this time by offering employees the opportunity to be laid off.
Employees were notified on Tuesday by email of the voluntary layoff initiative that is geared to non-union positions.
This initiative comes on the heels of a late October financial incentive offer to retire before the end of the year. Seven have opted to participate, human resources director Michael Hagan said Wednesday.
He reported that four or five employees have reported interest in voluntary furlough.
The positions in which a layoff occurs will be evaluated in the future to determine whether they should be eliminated, the commissioners say.
