In a battle of unbeatens and reigning conference champions, Vermont women's basketball came up short Wednesday night, suffering its first loss of the season to host High Point, 71-65.
The Catamounts got off to a slow start in the first quarter that allowed High Point to build a 24-10 lead late in the first quarter. Vermont (4-1) deserves credit for clawing its way back into the contest and managed to tie the game four different times. Despite the ties, Vermont could never take the lead.
The Catamounts were not fazed by that initial 14-point hole. Binghamton transfer Jadyn Weltz helped ignite the Catamounts offense scoring 10 straight points. Then it was Nikola Priede's turn. The senior center scored 10 of her 19 total points in the second quarter, sending Vermont into halftime down 38-
