The Town of Hampstead has agreed to cover Mayor Jeremy Levi’s legal defence as he reportedly faces a conduct complaint before Quebec’s chartered accountants’ disciplinary board, councillors decided on Monday.
The town council voted unanimously to hire the Quebec City law firm Stein Monast to represent Levi before the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec (OCPAQ). Levi, who was recently re-elected in a tight and bruising election campaign , is a certified professional accountant.
The nature of the complaint remains unclear.
Maude Bujeault-Bolduc, director of communications for OCPAQ, said disciplinary matters remain confidential unless and until the Order’s syndic files formal charges.
