LEAWOOD, Kan. —

Leawood police are investigating after an "elderly" driver struck a pedestrian on a sidewalk along West 133rd Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the crash near High Drive, where witnesses told police the westbound vehicle left the roadway and continued traveling on the sidewalk path. Advertisement

The department says the pedestrian was also walking west on the north sidewalk when the vehicle hit them.

Medics took the pedestrian to a nearby hospital, police said.

The driver stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, according to investigators.
