FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. — Parents of students at Rise STEM Academy for Girls are voicing opposition to a proposal that would house their school alongside the George Washington Carver STEM Academy for Boys in the same building.

The Fayette County Schools’ new Facility Assessment Committee met for the first time Monday. The committee is examining how to use the district’s buildings efficiently.

“It was a complete shock. I don’t think that any of us were expecting that at all. We were all very excited about getting this new school,” said Jackie McCuddy, a Rise STEM Academy parent.

McCuddy was one of four parents who spoke about the district’s proposal.

The committee is considering housing both academies in a new school building designated for Rise STEM Academy for Girls near Cardinal Hill Reh
