FARGO — Neighborhoods around the region are gradually brightening as Christmas lights go up for the holiday season.

Patrick Egan, a mobile mechanic most of the year, has spent the last three years pausing his regular work to string lights. This year, he has been busy since Oct. 10, installing displays for about 50 homes.

“This has been my seasonal gig now for the last three years,” Egan said.

Egan estimates he has already put up 5,000 feet of lights this season.

“We’re in the darkest part of the year and lights represent the light of Christmas and community spirit,” he said.
