CHESAPEAKE, Ohio (WSAZ) – During the Today show’s broadcast on Wednesday, a local teacher was celebrated for her work and passion -- receiving national attention.
Brea Kitts has spent 27 years teaching American history at Chesapeake High School in Lawrence County, Ohio.
Kitts’ class consistently excels at state exams, and students regularly note her patience and encouraging teaching style. She also pours resources into her classroom, providing snacks, toiletries, and clothing.
“I started to see if a kid’s need weren’t met,” Kitts said. “If you come to school and your teeth aren’t brushed, or you don’t feel clean, you actually have a hard time learning.”
The Today show awarded Kitts and her family a free vacation from Southwest Airlines.
