Young jockey Bailey Rogerson is out of a coma, but still has a long way to go in her recovery following a devastating fall on the weekend.

Rogerson, whose famous grandfather Graeme Rogerson trained 2007 Melbourne Cup champion Efficient, remains in Waikato Hospital’s intensive care unit after coming off Mandolo in Race 6 at the Arawa Parking meeting in New Zealand .

The 24-year-old was placed in an induced coma after suffering a fractured skull and brain bleed in the frightening incident.

But in a positive development, Graeme has revealed his granddaughter has regained consciousness and is breathing without assistance

“She’s certainly turned the corner and although she has a long way to go, it’s a big relief for all of us that she’s a whole lot better than she was to begin with,” Grae
