Shock figures have shown Coventry residents are far more likely to contract a sexually transmitted infection (STI) than those living in many other places across the country. The rate in the city stands at 905 per 100,000 people while the national rate is 694 per 100,000 and the average rate for neighbouring authorities is 698 per 100,000.
The data also reveals it is young people most likely to be affected with with 49 per cent of all new STI diagnoses in the West Midlands being reported by those aged between 15 and 24. Coventry is also well above the national average when it comes to teenage pregnancies with the under 18s conception rate in Coventry at 21.2 per 1,000 compared to the average across England which is 13.9 per 1,000.
