FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Each holiday season, Christmas on Broadway selects a featured charitable organization to take part in the festivities at Broadway Plaza.

This year, the event shines the spotlight on a group more familiar with the heat of summer than the cold of winter — the World Baseball Academy.

“We’re leadership beyond the game,” Development Director Kristen Kimmel said. “Our vision is to develop leaders who positively impact our world. Baseball is just a platform. We really want to make sure when our kids leave here, they have those sound values and principles to be successful in life.”

The World Baseball Academy, or WBA, first launched more than two decades ago with a much different mission in mind.
