In West Bengal, Bangladeshis are waiting to return to their country in the border area of Hakimpur between India and Bangladesh.
The BSF deployed along the India–Bangladesh border in West Bengal has claimed that the number of illegal Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross the border has risen sharply, and this return is linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll being conducted in the state.
According to a BSF officer, a significant jump has been observed in the flow of Bangladeshi immigrants trying to return through unfenced stretches of the border in North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad and Malda.
According to news agency PTI, the BSF officer said that earlier, such cases barely touched double digits. Now, the numbers are consistently in triple digits every day.
