A few hours before his team plays the New York Giants at Ford Field on Sunday, Nov. 23, Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell will almost certainly find his counterpart during warmups and say a brief hello.

That counterpart was supposed to be Brian Daboll, Campbell’s friend and former boss with the Miami Dolphins . But that changed Nov. 10, when the Giants fired Daboll (and promoted offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to interim coach) following a 2-8 start that came on the heels of last year’s 3-14 season.
