Ministers have been accused of being “tone deaf” over a social media post boasting about the Department from Education’s achievements while the UK faces a deepening child poverty crisis.
The DfE copied a new online trend of issuing a false “apology statement” on Instagram this week to promote some of its recent achievements, along with the caption: “We’ll take this one on the chin.”
But the post has been heavily criticised because it comes at a time when child poverty is soaring and UK baby banks are preparing for their toughest winter yet.
According to the Child Poverty Action Group , 4.5 million children are growing up in poverty in the UK, which is almost one-third of children.
