Julianna Smith, a Concordia Student Union staffer, has been barred indefinitely from all university property for her alleged involvement in protest activities that took place on Oct. 6. On Oct. 7, the two-year anniversary of the terrorist attack in Israel, Concordia became the only university in the world to close out of concern that it could not protect its campus community. And it seems that Concordia’s own student union and at least one of its associations may be at least partially responsible.

On Oct. 6, a group of about 30 masked protesters interrupted classes and a midterm exam at Concordia’s downtown campus. Campus Safety and Prevention Services (CSPS) asked them to leave. Instead, the group continued its disruption by pounding on lockers and chanting into a bullhorn.
