The use of a pamphlet by BJP candidates for municipal council polls in Uran in Maharashtra’s Raigad district has drawn flak for an unusual reason–it’s printed entirely in Urdu, marking a departure for the party known for its Hindutva and strong antipathy towards the language.
The development also comes after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation recently scrapped an Urdu Learning Centre project in Byculla, Mumbai , following large-scale protests from the BJP.
As images of the pamphlet spread, leaders from the AIMIM, MNS, and the Congress accused the BJP of political opportunism and hypocrisy. “So this is the BJP’s so-called hardcore Hindutva.
