A breakout attempt at a Berks County juvenile facility triggered a swift response involving more than a dozen guards, Caernarvon Township Police announced on Thursday, Nov. 20.
Diandy Jaoquin-Alfonseca, 18, joined a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old in an attempted escape from Abraxas Academy at 1000 Academy Drive in New Morgan Borough on Friday, Nov. 7, according to the police release.
The incident began when the 15-year-old kicked open a door leading to the exterior grounds, prompting the other two to follow, authorities said.
Surveillance video showed the trio running across the yard and trying to climb the fence before they were stopped, police detailed.
Sixteen staff members and guards responded and quickly apprehended all three teens, investigators said.
Jaoquin-Alfonseca is charged as an adult with Felony Escape, police said.
