Hanford police arrested a 36-year-old woman Tuesday for allegedly stealing more than $55,000 from an 81-year-old man, authorities said.
Police said Irais Angel, of Hanford, who had worked as an in-home caretaker for the victim’s wife, began cashing checks belonging to the man after the woman died.
Investigators say the alleged financial abuse occurred over 11 months.
Angel was taken into custody without incident during a search warrant on the 700 block of Mussel Slough Road.
She was booked into Kings County Jail with bail set at $70,000 on charges of elder abuse and theft, police said.
