Administrators at Southern Nevada high schools were not happy with how this season football playoffs developed, and a big change was made Wednesday.
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Board of Control voted to make the current Class 5A-Open a 10-team league, starting in the 2026 season.
The 5A Open was decided by the top four teams in the 5A-South this year. Those top four were determined by a ranking system which included team ratings by high school sports website MaxPreps. Some late adjustments to those rankings meant the playoff schedule changed a couple of times.
Creating a 10-team class also means Bishop Gorman would have to play nine league games in the 10-game high school football season. That means the Gaels would not be able to play several out-of-state teams, as
