Chad Miller doesn’t just tailor his gameplan to his players.

He tailors it to the community.

So when the Ogemaw Heights football team runs hard, hits hard and does all the dirty work it requires to be successful, it’s all by design. That’s who they are and that’s what they do in the West Branch neck of the woods.

“There aren’t enough skill kids in Ogemaw County to put five receivers on the field,” said Miller, the seventh-year head coach. “We’ve got a bunch of farmers and hard workers, so we play physical football.”

And the Falcons play it well.

Riding the program’s first regional championship since 2009, Ogemaw Heights (11-1) takes on Grand Rapids West Catholic (11-1) in the Division 5 state semifinal. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Clare’s Brookwood Athletic Complex.
