A 26-year-old woman who worked as an aide to a Republican congressman has been accused of fabricating her own violent anti-Trump assault in July. Natalie Greene — who at the time worked on the staff of New Jersey representative Jeff Van Drew — is facing federal charges over the alleged hoax.

According to a federal indictment filed last week and released Wednesday, police in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, received a 911 call on the night of July 23 from a woman who said she was Greene’s friend, stating that she and Greene had been attacked by three men at a local nature preserve. At the scene, police found Greene on the ground — hands and feet bound with black zip ties and her shirt pulled over her head — “crying loudly and yelling ‘he has a gun; he has a gun,’” the indictment states.
